PROFESSIONAL EDITORIAL TEAM AND THINK-TANK

As many as 60 highly trained journalists, who comprise reporters/ producers/editors and editorial assistants, work for Radio Sagarmatha. Out of them, as much as 40 percent are women. Programs are produced by those who have graduate and post-graduate degree in journalism, with necessary training. They ensure quality programs, which are not only informative but interesting and credible. The members of the editorial team have the necessary spirit of voluntarism. This is something which is appreciated at Radio Sagarmatha. Retired judge of the Supreme Court Laxman Aryal has worked for Radio Sagarmatha as a volunteer. Likewise, Late Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Bisnu Pratap Shah, used to volunteer to work for Radio Sagarmatha after his retirement.

Radio Sagarmatha has also benefited from the contribution coming Prof. Dr D P Bhandari, noted journalist Bhairab Risal, human rights campaigner Sharada Pokharel, columnist Sulochana Manandhar, senior journalist Krishna Prasad Sigdyal and hydro engineer L R Tamang and defender of the consumers' rights advocate Jyoti Bania.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

Radio Sagarmatha is known for its positive discrimination to women and members of the ethnic community who join it as members of the editorial team. It reflects our style of functioning. Members of the fairer sex and those belonging to ethnic groups race ahead of the rest under similar employment conditions. This is done to give more than fair deal. Exploitation or child labor is non-existent.

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

Being the oldest community radio, Radio Sagarmatha regularly holds training sessions for the benefit of its editorial and support staff as well as for those in its network. This is often done in cooperation with Community Radio Support Center (CRSC), which is community radio promotion wing of NEFEJ. This ensures sharing of latest technology and experience with F M radios from around the country. The training sessions are tailored to meet operational demands which are of specific nature. Generally training sessions are focused on program production, reporting skills and digital and audio editing. Radio Sagarmatha is associated with a number of pioneer European Broadcasters and Media Training Centers which impart training to journalists working with it while also producing radio trainers. They include:

  • International Institute of Journalism Berlin - Brandenburg (IIJB)
  • BBC
  • Deutsche Welle
  • Radio Netherlands Training Center.

The number of trainee volunteers is large. Equally big is the number of professionals who have contributed to the evolution of Radio Sagarmatha to the current standard and have joined national and international agencies. This indicates at how Radio Sagarmatha is producing a pool of media professionals.
